Unconference at DrupalCon SF

POSTED BY Crystal Williams on February 22, 2010
Introducing a new DrupalCon event for 2010 - Drupal It Yourself! - A Community Unconference. We invite DrupalCon attendees to connect with participants from the larger tech community, members of other open source projects, and each other for a day of unconference-style presentations and conversations. This event will be free and open to all conference attendees PLUS non-attendees. Everyone with something to share is welcome to participate. On April 18th, 2010, come prepared to present and participate. Following the BarCamp motto of "No speakers - only Participants" we welcome talks on:
  • Other technologies/languages integrating with Drupal
  • General Web Development Best Practices, Security Concerns, and Standards
  • Experimental Modules and Drupal Development
  • Case Studies
  • Anything too new to share at DrupalCon!
In addition to scheduled sessions, we'll have plenty of room for collaborative coding and conversations, so come hang out, meet other Drupallers in a relaxed environment before the main conference, and share what you know. Sessions will not be scheduled until the day of the event, so be sure to come early to get your session on the schedule. The event is free and open, but registration is required. Sign Up Here!

Drupal Training: ramp-up your knowledge before the conference

POSTED BY Jen Lampton on February 19, 2010

For the first time ever DrupalCon is proud to offer professional training courses to its attendees. These courses are taught by Drupal experts and cover a wide range of topics ranging from how to build your first Drupal site to how protect yourself from security threats.

DrupalCon recognizes the increasing need for quality Drupal training. The goal is to expand the Drupal community by reaching out to new comers, and to increase the general knowledge base by sharing expertise in one area to people with skills in another.

Add training to your order when you purchase your DrupalCon ticket, or revisit the list of available offerings to sign up for training at any time.

These courses will be held on Sunday April 18th in the conference venue. Choose the one that's right for you, and ramp-up on your Drupal knowledge before the conference begins!

DCSF Scholarship Application Deadline Feb 22nd

POSTED BY Robert Douglass on February 18, 2010

Time is running out to submit your scholarship application to attend DrupalCon SF 2010. We announced the program on January 12, and the response has been very strong - thank you to all of you who have already applied. In the coming days we'll begin evaluating the applications and making selections as timely as we can (we know you have your travel plans to think about).

Finally, thank you to this year's sponsors. Without your support there would be no scholarships and a whole group of Drupallers wouldn't have the chance to attend the best Drupal event in the world!

Session voting starts today, make your voice heard!

POSTED BY Chris Shattuck on February 15, 2010

Holy cow, over 400 sessions were submitted this last month - enough for 3 Drupalcons! Now comes the the fun part - reviewing sessions and voting for the ones you'd like to see.

Session voting opens today and lasts until March 1st. That means you have 2 weeks to find the gems and give them your mark of approval. Remember, every vote counts! The final schedule will be posted on March 15th.

To vote, browse the session list, choose the sessions you'd like to see and click on the 'Vote!' button. Bookmark your top picks so you can find them easily when the schedule is posted.

To those who submitted, thank you! Now, use every brand of social media to get the word out about your session. Tweet it, Facebook it, tattoo it on your arm, because there's going to be some tight competition this time around with so many stellar-sounding presentations.

Only 59 more days until Drupalcon, looking forward to seeing you there!

DrupalCon Session Proposals close on Monday February 15th.

POSTED BY Earl Miles on February 12, 2010

Can you believe that there are only 64 days left until DrupalCon San Francisco?! Starting April 17th, more than a thousand (we think it will be more than two thousand!) people will be converging at the Moscone center in San Francisco for a great program of Drupal sessions, and we are really looking forward to seeing what happens when the community gets together at another one of these fabulous events. Session proposals have been open for almost a month and there's a lot of great stuff in there.

If you want to submit a proposal but you haven't, you still have time! Visit the session proposal page, and put your hat in the ring, but you better act fast! After Monday February 15th, we're closing session proposals so that on the 16th, we can open up community voting and let all of you tell us which of the sessions you would most like to see. Voting will continue until March 1st, 2010. If there is a session that you really want to see at DrupalCon, rally support and tell all your friends to vote.

On March 1st the DCSF planning committee will begin work on session selections. Your votes will play a huge part in which proposals get the strongest consideration. Speakers will be notified on March 5th whether their sessions have been accepted or not. The DrupalCon daily schedule will be posted on March 15th: http://sf2010.drupal.org/conference/schedule.

DrupalCon sessions are organized into several tracks:

  • Welcome to Drupal: Watch overviews and tutorials for those new to the community.
  • Configuration, Set-up & Administration: Manage Drupal through the User Interface.
  •
Design, theme, and Usability
: Learn about trends, techniques, and tools.
  • Under the Hood
: Study servers, Drupal core, module building, and more.
  • Leveraging Drupal for your business: Hear case studies and learn about adapting to open-source technology.
  • Providing Professional Drupal Services
: Share how to design, theme, develop, host, train, manage, and take your Drupal business to the next level.

If you have something to contribute along these lines, get your DrupalCon session proposal in before it's too late!

Drupalcon San Francisco is the premiere conference for learning and sharing about all things Drupal. Come and learn how the leading open source CMS is reshaping the internet and meet the community that is leading the way!
