Hey there folks,
If you're willing to stat at a 2 star, former Ramada Limited, the Knights Inn is a relatively close place to stay:
Currently between $50-$60/night.
Compare to: Days Inn, La Quinta (in various states of newness).
If you know the SoMa neighborhood (where the conference is, where this hotel is), you know the atmosphere changes rapidly with every block :D
I'm from the area, and it rolls right off me. But I know everybody's traveling circumstances and companions may be different :D
Anyway, a good resource for budget travelers.
