At Stanford University, I lead the technical team in the Documentation, Design, and Development (DDD) group within IT Services (the University's central IT department). The DDD group creates web sites and printed publications that help Stanford’s students, faculty, and staff use information technology effectively in their academic pursuits and everyday work. Within DDD, the technical team focuses on the authoring and development tools that DDD and other Stanford web makers need to do their work: standards, templates/skins/themes, and web application programming tools.
In addition to leading DDD’s technical team, I design, write, and edit for IT Services’ client-facing and internal web sites. I am responsible for several University “technology concierge” sites that host links and information from multiple IT providers, including web.stanford.edu, web.stanford.edu/wiki, computing.stanford.edu, courses.stanford.edu, and software.stanford.edu. On occasion, I join project teams and participate in the analysis and development of web-based services and collaboration tools.
I joined IT Services in 1992 with a background in writing, print media, community relations, and event planning.
My first roles at Stanford, from 1987-92, were in Stanford’s Office of Public Affairs. My responsibilities there ranged from supporting alumni, trustee, and media relations to serving as Assistant Director of the Stanford Centennial Office (which budgeted, planned, and co-implemented programs and events locally and internationally to commemorate the University's 100th anniversary).
